Text Box: The St. Basil SOC Church School consists of two programs: the Orthodox Christian Education Program and the Serbian Cultural Education Program. All children registered in our Church School are required to participate in the Orthodox Christian Education Program. The Serbian Cultural Education Program is not required, but suggested.

Orthodox Christian Ed. Program. Orthodox Christian Education Classes are taught under the direction of our Parish Priest Fr. Vladimir Vranic, who completed Theological High School Seminary on Mount Athos, St. Sava Serbian Orthodox School of Theology, Libertyville (BA) and St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary, New York (MTh). Classes are held every Sunday immediately following Liturgy. While the children are in class, parents participate in a fellowship “Coffee Hour.” Our children are taught how to commune with God through liturgical worship and in daily life. Children experience Orthodox doctrine through participation in Epistle reading, church singing and Bible reading and are taught daily prayer and practices designed to carry Orthodox teachings into your home and their school life. The Orthodox liturgical calendar and all Serbian Orthodox traditions are taught. Children participate in a Vertep-Christmas Play, St. Sava Day, Church Slava and other important festal celebrations. Our children participate in community outreach by visiting seniors and shut-ins, collecting food for the hungry and raising money for the less fortunate both here and in our Serbian homeland. Classes range from Pre-School to High School. The 2007 Orthodox Christian Education Program teaching staff consists of the following volunteers: Mileva Savich (Coordinator), Masha Kosanovich, Vera Prus, Gordana Vasiljevich, Mike Kosanovich, Mary Perisic, Renee Pierson, Marya Savich, Milly Terzic and Brenda Popovic. Voluntary donations fund this program. Come and See!

Serbian Cultural Education Program. Serbian Dance/Folklore and Language/History are held on Friday evenings, with children rotating between classes, which are age-oriented. Serbian Language/History classes are taught by volunteer teachers: Popadija Katarina Vranic, Popadija Snezana Novakovic and Zoran Mihajlovic. Serbian Dance/Folklore is taught by a professional, Nikola Krcadinac. While one age group of children is working with the dance instructor, the other groups attend Serbian Language/History classes. Much of the training is practical and geared toward the St. Sava Celebration and Church Chanting and Reading in Serbian. The Serbian Cultural Education Program has fixed expenses related to professional instruction, costumes, etc. Due to our Church mortgage, this program must be self-sustaining, which requires parents to pay a reasonable fee set by the parents in conjunction with our Church Trusteeship.
