+ HOME BLESSINGS + The Theophany blessing of homes in our parish will begin after Theophany, on Tuesday, January 19. Have a candle, a small bowl and a list of the living and deceased members of your family on the table in the dining room or in the kitchen. Priest will bless all the rooms in the house.
The blessing of homes with Theophany Holy Water is an old Orthodox tradition. Priest comes to your house in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ who said to his apostles: “As you enter the house, salute it. And if the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it.” (Mt. 10:12-13). “He who receives you receives me”. (Mt. 10:40).
Make this visit of your priest to be a blessed experience for you and the members of your family by fully participating in prayers offered in your home. All in the house should join priest standing up in reverence. The radio, T.V., etc. should be turned off. May the blessing of our Lord Jesus Christ and His protection be upon you and your home.

A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! Sunday was a wonderful day in the life our parish and we want to thank all of you for your hard work over the past few days, weeks, months and even years. We thank everyone for their hard work and those who provided special leadership for this celebration. Through everyone’s efforts, prayers and the intercessions of St. Basil, God has blessed us with an opportunity to start again. We received tremendously generous donations from all our parishioners and guests; especially from His Grace, Bishop Longin and the Stokovich Family. Their belief and faith that this can become a shining example of an Orthodox parish we can be proud of gives us tremendous confidence that we will succeed in our efforts to leave a legacy for our children. We also want to thank everyone for their your support. We are so gratefulfor that. Neil Burmeister, Trusteeship President
and Trusteeship Board Members of

Fr.Djuro's Sermon delivered on Sunday before Theophany, January 17th, 2010: Today we are short time from the celebration of Christ's baptism in the River Jordan. Today we are on the Sunday before of the Feast of Theophany, the celebration of the Holy Trinity made manifest. Manifest means it was made clear and real to us. Each Theophany (a time when God appeared in the flesh as Christ), we celebrate the newness of creation. In the Gospel we hear: "Today the Creator of heaven and earth approaches the River Jordan in the flesh; the Sinless One asks for baptism, that He may cleanse the world of the falsehood of the enemy."

EYE ON SCRIPTURE
But food does not commend us to God; for neither if we eat are we the better, nor if we do not eat are we the worse. But beware lest somehow this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to those who are weak. For if anyone sees you who have knowledge eating in an idol’s temple, will not the consci-ence of him who is weak be emboldened to eat those things offered to idols?... Therefore if food makes
my brother stumble, I will never again eat meat….
FROM THE PRIEST WORDS FROM ETERNAL LIFE
Words have power. God created the world out of nothing by His words. We too, who are created in the image of God, create our worlds through our words. We live in the world we create for ourselves - and what kind of world each of us lives in is up to the words we use to create it. With our words we can spread forgiveness and love, reconciliation and healing, warmth and light, encouragement, knowledge and power - or, the opposite. Words create an attitude as much as they come from an attitude.

STEWARDSHIP COMES IN MANY WAYS
To keep expenses as manageable as possible, we are starting a new program at St. Basil Church and are asking for faithful individuals or families to volunteer to help in maintaining the church area of our complex sometime after and/or before Sunday and other Liturgies. All supplies and equipment will be provided. Typical tasks needing weekly attention include: vacuuming church, cleaning candle stands, wiping icons, cleaning glass on entry doors, straightening chairs, dusting etc. This stewardship is only for the church and is not for maintaining the social hall and other areas cleaned regularly. Individuals and/or families can sign up on a form kept where candles are sold.
SUNDAY LUNCHES
After Divine Liturgy, please join us in the Social Hall for Coffee Hour and the KSS Hot Lunch!
